Chance to Shine

WELSH YOUNGSTERS GOT A CHANCE TO SHINE

The Chance to shine scheme run by the Cricket Foundation (the charitable arm of the ECB) is aimed at boosting cricket in state schools. The scheme was launched in Wales in 2005, with Neath Cricket Club being chosen as one of 12 accredited clubs in England and Wales to work with local schools.  Neath C.C. worked with six local schools, including Cefn Saeson Comprehensive, where the official launch took place on June 17th 2005, with former England captain Mike Gatting being one of the special guests.

"The Chance to shine scheme gave us the ideal opportunity to work with schools within our local community”, said Steve Maddock, the Head Coach at Neath C.C., who has played for Wales and Glamorgan 2nd XI. “Through this unique scheme, Neath CC had funding to train coaches, and to establish the life-long participation in cricket, as players and supporters, of the children who are introduced to the game.  See more details on the web site: http://www.chancetoshine.org/
